Ahtra Elnashar is a national correspondent for Sinclair Broadcast Group’s Capitol Hill bureau where she reports on the economy, the Federal Reserve, Congress and the White House. Her coverage primarily focuses on monetary and fiscal policy impacts on businesses and everyday Americans. She’s covered notable events including the collapse of crypto exchange FTX, historic interest rate hikes, the passage of pandemic relief legislation, the January 6 attack and two impeachments.
Prior to joining Sinclair, Ahtra worked in Grand Rapids, Michigan at WXMI covering politics. Her coverage of the 2018 midterm elections brought her across the swing state. She also reported extensively on the widespread contamination of PFAS in the state’s drinking water. Ahtra began her career at KDLT in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as a morning news anchor.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in journalism and political science. She is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
