New Washington Redskins head coach Ron Rivera has hired former NFL head coach Jack Del Rio as the team's new defensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

This is Rivera's first big coaching hire since he became the franchise's new coach on Wednesday. Rivera signed a 5-year deal and is the first minority head coach in Redskins history.

Del Rio, a current ESPN analyst, was a former head coach for the Oakland Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars. He traditionally has run a 4-3 defense and had success with that scheme.

The former head coach will have plenty of defensive talent to work with including a front-seven that features Jonathan Allen, Montez Sweat, and Ryan Kerrigan.
