MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A fight broke out between the two teams Friday night at the high school football game between Northwest and Gaithersburg.
And the fighting wasn't restricted to the football field. Police said other physical altercations began to break out in the parking lot.
Officers from the Gaithersburg Police Department and Montgomery County Police responded to Gaithersburg High School at 101 Education Boulevard 8:23 p.m. for the report of a fight.
Several people believed to be involved in the fights were taken into custody and will be charged, Gaithersburg Police said.
Montgomery County Police said at least one person was arrested with a knife.

A school staff member suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was being treated by medical personnel, police said.
One police officer was assaulted but didn't need medical attention.
One person is being treated for lacerations.
The game kicked off at 6:30 p.m. at Gaithersburg and the fight started at about 8:23 p.m., police said.
A heavy police presence attempted to control the crowd in the parking lot.

According to a tweet from Northwest Football, the game was called and Northwest won 14-0.
Montgomery County Schools issued a statement, condemning the actions.
"Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) strongly condemns the abhorrent and unacceptable behavior that occurred at the football game last night – on Friday, September 16, 2022 – between Northwest and Gaithersburg at Gaithersburg High School. The district is swiftly moving to develop and implement enhanced measures for safety at any athletic event and will communicate those to our community in the coming days.
As agreed upon by both MCPS and both schools, all football operations at those two schools will be suspended temporarily, to assist in the ongoing investigation. The district will pursue disciplinary actions against any individuals who are found to have participated in this large altercation, while working to bring communities together around the importance of upholding safe and respectful environments."
