Lisa Fletcher is a veteran investigative reporter and news anchor who has covered stories around the world for leading national and international news networks.
Prior to joining WJLA-News/ABC7, Fletcher was a national correspondent for the primetime magazine show "America Tonight." Her stories exposed wrongdoing in the criminal justice system, global environmental abuses, and innovative grass roots solutions to social problems.
From 2012-2015 Fletcher hosted the award winning show, The Stream, a daily, primetime emerging-events and political talk show for both Al Jazeera English (AJE) and Al Jazeera America (AJAM). The uniquely interactive program engaged viewers through live participation in the show via Twitter, Facebook, Skype and Google platforms.
As a national correspondent for ABC News, Fletcher was consistently featured on Good Morning America, ABC World News and Nightline. She has been at the center of the nation's biggest stories - from natural disasters and school shootings and has covered the major legal and political events of the past decade.
In a sweeping undercover investigation, her reports exposed serious security breaches at one of the nation's largest airports. As a result, the TSA immediately suspended, and later replaced, its Federal Security Director and launched a national inquiry into every airport's security procedures.
Her investigations consistently prompt action and often trigger local, state or federal investigations. One such investigation, for ABC's Nightline, uncovered the abuse of chimpanzees and other primates at one of the nation's largest testing facilities. Fletcher's story, which lead to a response from the USDA and subsequent punitive action against the lab, is often credited as the initial wave of exposure that eventually lead to the elimination of chimps in USA testing laboratories.
Fletcher's interviewed countless national and international political figures, luminaries, celebrities and the most important thinkers of our time.
She has won many notable honors for her work including the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, multiple national Edward R. Murrow Awards, honors from the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists and numerous Emmy Awards for investigative journalism.
Fletcher's been featured in multiple television shows, newspapers and magazines for her work as an investigative journalist - including a profile episode for the PBS documentary series "Exposé: America's Investigative Reports" and a profile in Vogue Magazine.
