ASHBURN, Va. (7News) — The reality is beginning to set in on a chilly Monday in Ashburn, Virginia.
The Washington Commanders season is going downhill quickly. Sunday's loss against the New York Giants proved to be the low point of Ron Rivera's four-year tenure in Washington.

Right now, Rivera is still the head coach of the Commanders. After Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game in Dallas, all bets are off. Nobody really knows when or if team owner Josh Harris will make that decision to part ways with Rivera.
7News sports anchor Scott Abraham asked Rivera on Monday about how he's handling all of the scrutiny.
"I can only control what I can. As long as things that we want to be going in the right direction, seem to be doing that, that's a positive," Rivera told Abraham. "What happens from beyond today, what happens from beyond the end of the season, that's not in my control. So, everything I'm going to do is just focus on today. I mean the now and present, that's the only thing I have and that's what I'll do. I'm trying to get that across to the players as well. I can't focus on what I can't control, I can only control what's going on right now with this football team this day.”
Another harsh reality, the Commanders will most likely not make the playoffs again. They are 4-7 on the season with two games against the Cowboys and games versus Miami and San Francisco still looming.
Over the last few weeks, Rivera has mentioned a couple of times how he's helped turn around the culture of the franchise. The majority of the fan base thinks differently, pointing toward the lack of wins.
Abraham asked Rivera about that cultural disconnect with the fans.
"Guys learn to do things the right way and then they go out and do it. Now, that's what we're trying to work on, that's what we're trying to get across, that's what we're trying to do. We're trying to go ahead and get it to the point where we can be consistent with everything we do," Rivera told Abraham. "Are there some things that are missing right now? Yes. But we're working to get those things corrected, we're working to get those things right. At the end of the day, it's about what happens each day and then forward.”
Thursday's game in Dallas against the Cowboys will kick off at 4:30 p.m.
