"Feeling extremely honored today as I get to sign an extension with the city that I’ve called home for the last 10 years. Being a Cap means so much to me and I can’t wait to continue to compete and leave it all out there with this team." Wilson tweeted.
Wilson, who has spent a decade with the Caps, is now 29 years old, and coming off a season in which he recorded a career-low 33 games. It was also a season in which he and his teammates failed to make the playoffs for the first time since his rookie year, 2013-14.
Wilson has amassed 295 points (128 goals, 167 assists) in 680 career games, all with the Washington Capitals. He is also known for his brute force, earning five suspensions over the course of his career, and dropping the gloves at least 80 times according to hockeyfights.com. He is third all-time in penalty minutes (1,299) with the franchise.
