WASHINGTON COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 2-year-old is dead, and a child and adult are in the hospital after a fire at a Washington County home Friday night, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.
Firefighters responded to a home in the 20600 block of Military Road in Cascade around 6:20 p.m. for reports of a house fire with entrapment.
When crews arrived, they found the home had been converted into apartments. Officials said several occupants had escaped the fire, but reported that a child was still inside.
A 24-year-old woman and a one-year-old child were injured, officials said.
The fire was then upgraded to two alarms, prompting a response from about 75 firefighters, according to officials.
The injured woman was flown to a hospital and the one-year-old was transported to a hospital in an ambulance, officials said.
Firefighters later found the 2-year-old child inside a second-floor apartment. Officials said the fire claimed the life of the 2-year-old.

Maryland State Police officials and a K9 unit assisted in the investigation, according to officials.
