Winter storm warnings have been issued for the counties shaded in pink, where the biggest impacts to travel and the highest snow and ice totals are expected.
Winter weather advisories have been issued for the counties shaded in purple, where some impacts to travel and some snow and ice totals are expected. All of Montgomery and Fairfax counties are now under the winter weather advisory.

Most of the D.C. metro will miss out on accumulating snow, except areas along and west of Highway 15. The snow will be wet and heavy as temperatures stay close to freezing throughout the day.
Freezing rain may cause up to a quarter of an inch of ice in areas near Culpeper, Madison, and Harrisonburg, Virginia. Slick roads and some power outages are possible.
Any snow that accumulates in the D.C. metro will melt as temperatures warm and precipitation falls as rain. Some flooding may occur in southern Maryland around Prince George's, St. Mary's, Charles and Calvert counties.
Looking ahead, this weekend's storm looks to be the first of several as an active weather pattern emerges across the Lower 48.
Another system will follow on Tuesday of next week. As of now, that system will be warmer with mild temperatures in the 50s, resulting in all rain for the area. High winds are expected with that system, too.
